THE WIND OF THE SPIRIT was blowing a bit stiffly on Ullswater today – absolutely terrific experience for the sailing schools but decidedly a case of battling against the breeze for gentle-progress canoeists. Many are the occasions when it’s important to remember that “the Spirit listeth where it wills” … and you don’t want to be caught side-on!

Coffee and ice cream after doing battle restored a whole pier-house full of ideally-fair-weather Lake lovers. But hey! Didn’t June used to be warm and sunny when I were a lad?
