FORTY MILES on my trusty Kalkhoff today – Greystoke, Berrier, Caldbeck, up, round and over to Bassenthwaite, down to Keswick, along to Threlkeld via the old Penrith railway cycle path, and back up to Greystoke in just over three and a half hours – with a coffee break and caramel shortcake in Caldbeck, and cheese and chutney sandwiches for lunch. What does one do to celebrate the exercise, the lungs full of fresh air, the sunshine (with only light drizzle) and the spectacular Lakeland scenery, the exhilaration and the now 3 week old miracle e-bike? (I hadn’t cycled more than around the parish, a few miles at a time, in years) …

Well: one sleeps, very, very deeply. But doubtless with a satisfied smile upon one’s face 🙂

  1. Sounds *delightful*, Simon! I love the image of you coasting around the back roads with the sun on your face and a song in your heart. 🙂

  2. I’ll bet you slept well – hope you didn’t wait a little on the stiff and sore side… 🙂 the photo brings back many happy memories of fell-walking around Threlkeld. Enjoy! 🙂
